Loans Gala Committee

We are a small and enthusiastic group of villagers who work together to promote good community relations in the village of Loans. The village historically had an annual Gala and various community events but many of these died away. In recent years Loans has expanded and a new wave of community spirit has encompassed the village.

The Gala Committee meet monthly at the Scout Hall, usually the first Monday of the month at 7.45pm (excluding July and August) and the meetings are open to all villagers and interested parties. There are several events proposed for the village:

The Annual Summer Funday

Held on the second Saturday of June starting at 1pm. This is a fun-filled afternoon catering to all age groups in the village and there are many family attractions at very reasonable prices! We are very lucky that so many of the villagers donate so generously.

Hallowe'en

We hold a party for the children and this will be on Sunday 29th October at the Village Hall. This only lasts about an hour but allows the children to show off their costumes if they want and to have some fun, games and goodies.

Light Up Loans

A very popular evening. Held on the first Sunday in December, we bring light to the village with our Christmas event. Again this is a short event lasting only just over an hour but we pack in a candlelit procession, switch on of lights and carol singing and raffle too.

Easter

We hold an Easter Event too, which is usually a coffee afternoon and activities for children. This year's event is Sunday 8th April.

Hanging baskets

These have been supplied to the village due to the effort of Loans Gala Committee and a grant from 'Awards for All' from the National Lottery

Loans Village Gala Day takes place on Saturday 14 June on the village playing fields, commencing 1.00 pm. All will be made most welcome to an afternoon of fun for all ages.

Confirmed to open this year's event is Nutz the squirrel, the Kilmarnock Football Club Mascot, and for the children, Uncle Billy will entertain them for an hour, fresh from his appearance on 'Britain's Got Talent'.

The 1st Troon Boys' Brigade Pipe Band, who recently excelled at the BB Pipe Band Scottish Band Contest, will lead the children's fancy dress parade through the village to the park, commencing at 12.30 pm from Stable Wynd.

A first this year are the quad bikes, safely set up in an rigid inflatable enclosure, and this will surely prove popular. Other attractions include Irvine & Dreghorn Brass Band, 20 quality stalls, hot and cold food available throughout the day, gladiator jousting, mini golf course, inflatable Chinese Dragon maze, beat the goalie, tug o' war, name the pigs competition, bar marquee, live music, tea room, children's games and races, and much more.

Volunteers are required to assist with the many attractions and events and all interested are invited to call Sandra on 01292 315201 or Derek on 01292 317253. One hour's help would make all the difference and also allow you plenty time to join in the fun!

We are always happy to welcome new members and ideas.
